Abstract: Death has been the most fearful but most interesting topic for human beings, and also it has been an internal theme in literature.Emily Dickinson,a pioneer of modern American and English poetry, takes a special interest in death and left behind her over 600 poems about it.These poems deeply reflect the author's contradictory psychology towards death. On the one hand, she has faith that death brought horror, anxiety and despair for people, the practice and feelings of it was also ice-cold and painful. So she negates death. On the other hand, the doctrine of Christianity and the Transcendentalism of Emerson have great effect on her,so she firmly believes that death is merely another form of life, and one can get eternal life after death. Therefore, she affirms death and desired to reach the hand of it.
